Safely Disposing your Old PC(s)

logo from www.technologystudent.comIt happens to everyone.  A new PC takes center stage on your desk and the old one ....

Hmmm. What to do with it?

Typical (bad) options include:

  • putting it out with the trash
  • piling it with other electronics gear in a closet or the basement

Better options exist!  RECYCLE!  The Electronic Industries Alliance website (Link) offers guidance on recycling and disposing of e-trash.

Gartner research indicates "that consumers and businesses worldwide will replace more than 800 million PCs over the next five years, with an estimated 64 percent being disposed of.  Of those, 73 pecrent will be put in a landfill or stored rather than recycled"

The EIA Website gives guidance by state on recycling options.  Link
